Hi everyone,

Another very indifferent week for golf, one minute the sun is out then the next it’s raining but that’s not enough to stop all of you playing with plenty of members still taking advantage of the course before winter really hits. I managed to get a game on Monday and considering the amount of rain there has been the course is really holding up well, sadly I can’t say my game stood up well to the wind.

On a brighter note, The Masters is fast approaching and is only two weeks away, who will be lucky enough to walk away with the famous Green Jacket? I can’t guess and sadly it won’t be any of us but to end the Major Season on a high we are going to give away a PowaKaddy Trolley to the winner of our Masters Sweepstake. The sweepstake has only been running for a week and is already half full so make sure you come in and purchase a player before they run out. This only costs £5 so you can make an amazing saving on a brand new electric trolley, don’t miss out. (This prize may change depending on the number of players sold)

Coach's Corner

As the season begins to wind down, now is the perfect time to work on your game and make any swing changes to help improve your game. What better way to find out these areas to work on than a lesson? Gareth will take a look at your swing and give you tips and pointers, to take away and practice, that is only going to help your game.

Gareth’s diary is filling up extremely quickly due to the high demand in lessons. If you do wish to get a lesson then make sure you pop in and get a space in the dairy. Failing that, feel free to phone us on 01292 473904 and we can get you booked in for as soon as possible.

Competition News

Wednesday and Saturday Sweeps

Due to the poor weather over the weekend no Pro Shop Sweep took place but there will be one running this Saturday. Hopefully the conditions will be better for you all.

My regular sweep on non-competition days are still remaining busy with members wanting to take part but please make sure you stick to these rules to ensure everyone enjoys their golf.

1. These sweeps are exclusively played using the STABLEFORD format.

2. You do not need to complete every hole to remain in the competition

3. Do not waste time finishing the hole for anything more than a net bogey.

4. Be aware of your position on the course at all times.

5. Don’t hold up groups behind you.

6. Enjoy the competition but remember not everybody is playing in it.

These protocols are not in place during non-competition days.

Slow play causes severe irritation and is the most common complaint received at the club, so please don’t let my sweep contribute to it.

Please be considerate and enjoy your golf.

Entry is entirely voluntary for both Gents and Ladies. Ideally please let us know via email whether you will be taking part if you have a tee time booked that day or alternatively, we will be taking entries on the day.

The competition rules will be set out as follows:

- Entry will be £4 per player which will include two’s and sweep, entry of both will be compulsory.

- Payment for entry will be accepted via cash (providing hand sanitiser is used prior to handling cash) or by contactless card payment.

- All winnings will be paid onto your shop account if you either have a two or win.

- The format will be Stableford, full handicap.

- You will keep your own score and the score of your playing partner. No exchanging of scorecards.

- Once you have completed your round you will verbally confirm your scores with each other. Again, no swapping or signing of cards.

- Upon finishing the 18th hole and making sure that scores are correct, you will call them into the shop where a staff member will keep a record of scores and any twos.

Ladies Locker

Winter Stableford - Thursday 22/10/20

This was the 5th competition in our Winter Fixtures and it proved to be yet another very popular event. 48 ladies took part with all our reserved tee times being fully utilised. Most of the players enjoyed dry weather with little wind (always a bonus!) but unfortunately, the afternoon ladies were not so lucky and didn't escape the rain. The results were:-

Jane Belford won with 2 pars beating Moyra Withycombe by 2 points.

Golf on Tour

It's not over yet!

The golfing season would have pretty much finished by this point if it were a ‘normal year’. The men’s game would have named its four Major champions, the women’s game its five big winners, and another cracking Ryder Cup enjoyed.

Sadly, this hasn’t been the case but the good – okay, great - news is that there are still two Majors left to play: an autumnal Masters Tournament from Augusta National and the U.S Women’s Open from Champions Golf Club.

We'll find out who'll be wearing the Green Jacket in just a couple of weeks, and the world’s best are certainly finding their A-games in preparation. Patrick Cantlay won the weekend’s Zozo Championship by one shot from Justin Thomas and Jon Rahm; Rory McIlroy made a record-breaking 29 birdies over the same four days, albeit he mixed them with 8 bogeys and 3 doubles; Hatton and Fitzpatrick are performing well both sides of the Atlantic; DJ is fresh off the back of his FedEx Cup triumph and Bryson is testing longer driver shafts as his looks to dominate Augusta.
