Hi folks,

Well, the winter weather is now definitely upon us as the temperature outside is beginning to drop, despite some winter sun over the past week. It is great to see so many of you still out on the course braving the cold. Let's hope the sunshine stays for as long as possible.

As many of you are aware, Gareth was up playing the Highland Links Pro-Am last week and he could not have asked for a better start. A brilliant 4 under 67 saw him sit tied third after the first round. Perfect position to challenge over the next few days. Unfortunately, his challenge was cut short with a disappointing 79 in the second round and a 75 in the third round whilst battling some extremely difficult and windy conditions.

His challenge for a good finish in a high-quality field was disappointingly cut short as he finished 27th. Being on the right side of the draw in tournaments, especially on links golf courses, can make all the difference and unfortunately, Gareth got to find this out first hand. Although I’m sure he will be disappointed with the performance, there are plenty of positives to take from the week, especially from his first-round play.

As the winter months draw in quickly, more and more winter gear is arriving in the shop on a daily basis, perfect for all conditions that you may face during your winter golf. The newest ranges from the likes of Under Armour, FootJoy, Glenmuir and adidas are all arriving in, so make sure you pop in and have a look at everything and get kitted out for the winter.

As the season begins to wind down, now is the perfect time to work on your game and make any swing changes to help improve your game. What better way to find out these areas to work on than a lesson? Gareth will take a look at your swing and give you tips and pointers, to take away and practice, that is only going to help your game.

Competition news

The date of Wednesday, 7 October was the October Houston Trophy with a great turn out and also a great winning score. John Ashton was the eventual winner after shooting level par for nett 66 beating Brian Manson and William McRae with nett 67’s.

On Saturday, 10 October, the October meeting was played for with a large number of you turning up to play on a testing day. The results were as follows:

Division 1 saw Colin Ramsay take first position by a single with a score of 80, nett 68. Ronald Mercer took second thanks to a batter inward half with a score of 75, nett 69 from Gary Tierney in third with a score of 74, nett 69.

Division two was topped by Bill Cumming with a score of 87, nett 74 from Alexander Henderson who shot 92, nett 75. Third Place, with a better inward half, was Kevin Taggart with a score of 89, nett 76.

Some great scores gents, well done!

The next medal in the calendar is the November medal on Saturday, 7 November. Make sure you all get your names in for this with only a few more Medals remaining this year.

 
Pro Shop sweep

As there is no medal this week the Pro Shop Sweep will be back on.

My regular sweep on non-competition days has been well received by a proportion of you die-hard golfers out there and I am happy to continue with this option.

However, as some participating competitors are approaching these rounds as they would under normal competition play I would not like the sweep to add to the issue of slow play. This was never my intention. The golf course pace of play protocols has been fully investigated by the Clubs Committee and require an extended tee off interval as well as a restriction to a 3-ball format in order to maintain.

These protocols are not in place during non-competition days.

Therefore, if you wish my Pro Shop sweeps to continue, I urge you to follow these simple rules: 

1.       These sweeps are exclusively played using the STABLEFORD format.

2.       You do not need to complete every hole to remain in the competition.

3.       Do not waste time finishing the hole for anything more than a net bogey.

4.       Be aware of your position on the course at all times.

5.       Don’t hold up groups behind you.

6.       Enjoy the competition but remember not everybody is playing in it.

Slow play causes severe irritation and is the most common complaint received at the club, so please don’t let my sweep contribute to it.

Please be considerate and enjoy your golf.

Entry is entirely voluntary. Ideally please let us know via email whether you will be taking part if you have a tee time booked that day or alternatively, we will be taking entries on the day.

The competition rules will be set out as follows:

- Entry will be £4 per player which will include two’s and sweep, entry of both will be compulsory.

- Payment for entry will be accepted via cash (providing hand sanitiser is used prior to handling cash) or by contactless card payment.

- All winnings will be paid onto your shop account if you either have a two or win.

- The format will be Stableford, full handicap.

- You will keep your own score and the score of your playing partner. No exchanging of scorecards.

- Once you have completed your round you will verbally confirm your scores with each other. Again, no swapping or signing of cards.

- Upon finishing the 18th hole and making sure that scores are correct, you will call them into the shop where a staff member will keep a record of scores and any twos.

 
Custom fitting

Custom fitting continues to prove very popular at the moment. Why would you spend your hard-earned money literally just walking into a shop and guessing that the clubs you are purchasing ‘might’ be suited to you?

Custom fitting is crucial in gaining more consistency. If you get custom fitted and happen to be standard everything, great, you will walk away with more peace of mind knowing that you have what is suited to you. To get custom fitted with us all you need to do is contact the shop and book a slot.

The amount of customers coming in for custom fitting this season with ill-suited clubs has been quite phenomenal and we have seen some fantastic results whilst fitting the new clubs with some seeing gains of u to 25 extra yards in carry alone! Product spotlight

Golf on Tour

Tyrrell Hatton sealed a fantastic victory at Wentworth in the BMW PGA Championship over the weekend.

The Englishman played some outstanding golf from tee-to-green, setting up birdie chances aplenty thanks to a near-perfect ball-striking display. Finding the right part of the green was key to Hatton's success over the weekend, which saw him enter the World's Top 10 for the very first time.

One of the slightly more unusual talking points from the weekend was Hatton's clothing; more specifically his hoodies. It seems to have people split and, whilst it won't be to everyone's taste, we'd love to hear your thoughts - send us a message below.
