Hi Folks, Well, what a week of golf it has been. I’m sure you were all aware that the ladies Open Championship was being played along the road at Royal Troon in some rather testing conditions, to say the least. I thankfully managed to watch a bit of the coverage on television and was incredibly impressed with the impressive scoring on an extremely tough golf course. For me, being able to watch and see the best female players in the world, plot their way around a golf course that I know fairly well, was an eye-opener and showed just how good they really are. Personally, I didn’t think the winning score would be under par with the weather forecast for the week but some incredibly consistent and accurate play and some unbelievable short game for the entire field proved me very wrong. It was a great first win on tour for Germany’s Sophia Popov, not a bad tournament to make your breakthrough! In the men’s game, across the Atlantic, saw Dustin Johnson put on a clinic. To most, it seemed like he was playing a different course from the rest of the field. Finishing at an incredible 30 under par, he was 11 shots better than his nearest challenger, equalling the second-lowest score to par in PGA tour history and returning him back to the top of the world rankings. He really is one of the most impressive players to watch in full flow and against a good field, this week just shows that when he is at the top of his game, there are not many that can get close. Fingers crossed for some sun over the next week so we can get out and play some golf. Have a good week folks Jordan

| There was no club competition taking place this week, with next one scheduled for the 5th September, however, a shop sweep did take place in some blustery but dry conditions which made it extremely tricky for scoring. Jay Houston took the spoils with an excellent 1 under par 68 and 39 points, winning by 4 Stableford points from second place Steven McGregor with a score of 35. Neil Foggo took third place thanks to a better inward half, with a score of 34 points. Two’s for the day paid £11.50. Congratulations gents, all your winnings will be paid straight into your account in the shop.
Wednesday and Saturday sweep The Pro Shop sweeps are continuing. As many of you will be aware, we run a sweep on every Wednesday and Saturday there is no club competition on. It will be open to anyone playing on those two days, male or female. Entry is entirely voluntary. Ideally please let us know via email whether you will be taking part if you have a tee time booked that day or alternatively, we will be taking entries on the day. The competition rules will be set out as follows: - Entry will be £4 per player which will include two’s and sweep, entry of both will be compulsory. - Payment for entry will be accepted via cash (providing hand sanitiser is used prior to handling cash) or by contactless card payment. - All winnings will be paid onto your shop account if you either have a two or win. - The format will be Stableford, full handicap. - You will keep your own score and the score of your playing partner. No exchanging of scorecards. - Once you have completed your round you will verbally confirm your scores with each other. Again, no swapping or signing of cards. - Upon finishing the 18th hole and making sure that scores are correct, you will call them into the shop where a staff member will keep a record of scores and any twos.

Popov and DJ in leagues of their own There are sporting shocks, and then there’s the World No. 304 winning a Major! Germany’s Sophia Popov finished on -7 at Royal Troon to claim victory at the AIG Women’s Open. Despite having never won on the LPGA or Ladies European Tour before, the 27-year-old fought off challenges from stars like World No. 8 Minjee Lee and seven-time Major Champion Inbee Park. Meanwhile, on the PGA Tour, Dustin Johnson won The Northern Trust, the first FedEx Cup playoff event, by shooting a staggering -30. That ended up being an 11-stroke victory, which raises the age-old question of what’s more entertaining:
An all-out birdie fest or tough, battling golf? Shooting these sort of scores requires immense confidence in your game. So, if there's a part of yours that you're particularly struggling with, send us a message below and we'll be happy to help.
