Wednesday and Saturday sweep

The Pro Shop sweeps are back.

We are going to run a Wednesday and Saturday sweep every non-Medal competition day throughout the year. It will be open to anyone playing on those two days, male or female.

Entry is entirely voluntary. Ideally please let us know via email whether you will be taking part if you have a tee time booked that day or alternatively, we will be taking entries on the day.

The competition rules will be set out as follows:

- Entry will be £4 per player which will include two’s and sweep, entry of both will be compulsory.

- Payment for entry will be accepted via cash (providing hand sanitiser is used prior to handling cash) or by contactless card payment.

- All winnings will be paid onto your shop account if you either have a two or win.

- The format will be Stableford, full handicap.

- ‘Gimmes’ will be allowed from strictly putter grip length. To help speed up play.

- You will keep your own score and the score of your playing partner. No exchanging of scorecards.

- Once you have completed your round you will verbally confirm your scores with each other. Again, no swapping or signing of cards.

- Upon finishing the 18th hole and making sure that scores are correct, you will call them into the shop where a staff member will keep a record of scores and any twos.

Please bear in mind that these two competitions will be purely to have a bit of fun and to remember what it was like with a scorecard in your hand again. So, what if you get a bad lie in an un-raked bunker, your ball lips out due to the hole depths being shallower. Let’s all be thankful to be back out playing golf again.

Well done to all the winners of the first official club medals this past week. Wednesday's Medal winners will be announced in next week's newsletter. Saturday's winner was as follows:

Trade-in event

Have you got old clubs or golf bags sitting in your garage or hut collecting dust?

Turn them into shop credit by attending our first ever ‘Trade-in’ golf day. On Saturday, 18 July between 10am - 2pm, we will be hosting a ‘cash for clubs’ trade-in day.

Bring any old clubs or golf bags along on the day and you will turn them into instant credit on your shop account. Tell your friends and get everyone involved. You do not have to be a member to attend.

We will be set up in the car park and social distancing measures will be in place on the day to keep everyone safe. Get some money towards your next purchase this golfing season by bringing in those clubs you think may never sell…

Shop news

Please note...

The following updated pro shop protocols will be reviewed along with government guidance, but the long and short is that I want to protect both my staff and you the customer when entering the pro shop.

1. A face mask must be worn when entering the shop.

2. Strict one in, one out policy.
(The door of the shop will be open at all times. If you pop your head in and there is already someone in the shop, please be patient and stand in the designated area outside the shop until you are able to enter.)

3. You will only be allowed into the shop if you sanitise your hands before entering the shop
(Sanitiser will be supplied at the entrance of the shop.)

4. Please keep a safe distance from all staff members.
(The shop will be set up with prices on all product and sizes clearly visible on hangers or clothing. If unsure then, by all means, ask a member of staff who will be able to help safely.)

5. Should you wish to purchase a pair of shoes and would like to try them on, please let us know before your round so that we can take the proper precautions for you returning after your round to try them on. For any purchases that require demonstration ie. trollies, demo equipment, this will take place outside the shop.

6. All confectionary will only be handled by my staff. They will collect what you require from the fridge and chocolate stand. (They will be sanitising after every transaction has taken place.)

7. Please respect fellow members and all staff. We are here to help and will get to you as soon as we possibly can.

These are difficult times to run a small business on what is quite a small shop floor. I really appreciate your business and I know it is not going to be the same way of shopping with us for a while but please, please make an effort in popping in to support us.

Being a single-figure golfer, there's a good chance that at least one club in your bag has been fitted to suit your swing. We're big advocates of custom fitting when it comes to purchasing new clubs and would encourage you to go through the process again if you're considering an upgrade to your set.

Changes over time

Whilst many of you have been custom fitted before, your specs are likely to alter over time as your swing changes.

Testing different clubs

This is the best bit about the fitting experience - trying out the latest products from multiple brand until you find the one you prefer.

You ARE good enough

A recent survey highlighted that nearly a quarter of golfers who haven’t been custom fitted before believe that they are not good enough to go through the fitting process. We're incredibly passionate about finding the best clubs for your game - no matter your golfing ability or experience - and an enjoyable fitting experience is the most effective way to do this and help you improve as a golfer.

Consistency is key

It’s nice to be able to hit the ball further and more accurately, and a custom fitting will help with that, but the main thing is to be more consistent so that your bad shots are few and far between.

Testing different clubs

This is the most enjoyable part for any golfer - trying out the latest equipment from different brands. It's not just about what performs best, but also about what you prefer in both looks and feel.

Finding you the right club

Once we have a club that you particularly like, we'll look at the finer details with you so it's perfectly set-up for your game. We appreciate it's a big purchase, so we want to ensure you walk away happy.

Making life easier off the tee

The average golfer will use their driver between 10-13 times per round. That means between 50-75% of holes are relying on that one club for a good start. But how do you ensure you get that good start?

Finding the right driver

First things first, if you want to find the fairway with more regularity then you need to feel comfortable with your driver. This game is made so much easier when we're confident in playing the shot at hand.
