Getting ready

The following pro shop protocols will be in place upon opening. All will be reviewed along with government guidance, but the long and short is that I want to protect both my staff and you the customer when entering the pro shop.

1. Strict one in, one out policy.
(The door of the shop will be open at all times. If you pop your head in and there is already someone in the shop, please be patient and stand in the designated area outside the shop until you are able to enter.)

2. You will only be allowed into the shop if you sanitise your hands before entering the shop
(Sanitiser will be supplied at the entrance of the shop.)

3. Please keep a safe distance from all staff members.
(The shop will be set up with prices on all product and sizes clearly visible on hangers or clothing. If unsure then, by all means, ask a member of staff who will be able to help safely.)

4. Should you wish to purchase a pair of shoes and would like to try them on, please let us know before your round so that we can take the proper precautions for you returning after your round to try them on. For any purchases that require demonstration ie. trollies, demo equipment, this will take place outside the shop.

5. All confectionary will only be handled by my staff. They will collect what you require from the fridge and chocolate stand. (They will be sanitising after every transaction has taken place.)

6. Please respect fellow members and all staff. We are here to help and will get to you as soon as we possibly can.

These are difficult times to run a small business on what is quite a small shop floor. I really appreciate your business and I know it is not going to be the same way of shopping with us for a while but please, please make an effort in popping in to support us.

Competition news

The draw is now closed. We have manged to hit our target of £1500 raised for the NHS!!! I will confirm the exact amount over the next few days, as there were a few last-minute entries and the exact details of the donation will be published over the next couple of weeks.

Thank you all once again for supporting such an incredible cause. The prize draw will likely be drawn this weekend so please keep your eyes peeled for that as there are loads of great prizes to be won.

Young Patrick is still working hard at his game during the last of lockdown. He should be good to go come Friday morning (fingers crossed.

I will not be doing any coaching in the first week back from lockdown due to making sure that the shop and operation around tee times is running effectively.

I plan to re-commence coaching from week two all being well, but this is subject to how everything is going.

Custom fitting

Custom fitting

Thank you to everyone who has got in touch for getting a custom fitting booked in.

I will not be doing any custom fits for the first week of opening to allow me to get the shop organised again and to try to make contact with all of my suppliers. The large majority of suppliers are still closed or operating on a very small scale at the moment, but my understanding is that a few will be opening over the next few weeks. I do plan to start fitting in the second week of re-opening but I will be in touch with all on my contact list shortly.

I bet we’re all glad to be getting back to this…..I hope you all enjoy John, Davie, the volunteers and newly un-furloughed greenkeepers efforts over the past few weeks.

I am sure that you will all join me in thanking them for their hard work and effort put in when you see them on the course (from a social distance of course!)

Ryder Cup

Could this really happen?

Over the past couple of weeks, we've been lucky enough to watch Tiger, Rory and a select few others take to the course to raise money for charities.

But, it's got us thinking...

With the PGA Tour set to return next month and the European Tour the month after - both without fans for a while - will September's Ryder Cup match between Europe and USA go ahead?

If it does, it'll likely be without spectators but would that be the same spectacle? Think back to Paris in 2018 when the cameras panned around the first tee at the start of each match to thousands of fans in the grandstand. It was a sight to behold.

Thoughts for the course

Home advantage is a phenomenon across most sports. In golf, playing a competition or match on a course you know like the back of your hand has obvious benefits. However, when playing a hole for the hundredth time, it’s easy to fall into the trap of playing it the same way you always have. But, what if there’s another way?

Risk and reward - take on the challenge?

This is where the question of risk and reward comes in.

Does the potential risk of bringing danger into play, be it trees or hazards, outweigh the potential reward?

Next time you’re standing on the tee, weigh up the potential risks and rewards of pulling out your driver. Don’t just think about avoiding doubles and trebles, consider the potential birdie or scoring 3-points. Likewise, if you struggle with a particular tee-shot, think about alternative ways to play that hole.
