Just a quick shop update folks. Having been on a Zoom call to the committee this week it has been decided that the following pro shop protocols will be in place upon opening. All will be reviewed along with government guidance, but the long and short is that I want to protect both my staff and you the customer when entering the pro shop.

1. Strict one in, one out policy.

(The door of the shop will be open at all times. If you pop your head in and there is already someone in the shop, please be patient and stand in the designated area outside the shop until you are able to enter.)

2. You will only be allowed into the shop if you sanitise your hands before entering the shop

(Sanitiser will be supplied at the entrance of the shop.)

3. Please keep a safe distance from all staff members.

(The shop will be set up with prices on all product and sizes clearly visible on hangers or clothing. If unsure then by all means, ask a member of staff who will be able to help safely.)

4. Should you wish to purchase a pair of shoes and would like to try them on, please let us know before your round so that we can take the proper precautions for you returning after your round to try them on. For any purchases that require demonstration ie. trollies, demo equipment, this will take place outside the shop.

5. All confectionary will only be handled by my staff. They will collect what you require from the fridge and chocolate stand.

(They will be sanitising after every transaction has taken place.)

6. Please respect fellow members and all staff. We are here to help and will get to you as soon as we possibly can.

These are difficult times to run a small business on what is quite a small shop floor. I really appreciate your business and I know it is not going to be the same way of shopping with us for a while but please, please make an effort in popping in to support us.

Custom fitting

Enquiries are still coming in regarding custom fitting sessions when we open again, and the list is starting to grow. Get your name on my list sooner rather than later. I will be booking people in for custom fittings in relation to when they got in touch with me and I will make every effort to see everyone as soon as I possibly can. If you are interested in getting custom fitted when we open again then please drop me an email so that I can put you on my call list.

It is in these times that you sit at home, start searching for everything golf and bursting to get out and play. Do not let that be the reason you go online and purchase a club that you have never hit or been fitted for!!! You are going to more than likely waste your money. Be patient! Come and see us once we are back to work for a custom fitting session and you will walk away with the correct thing for you.

Please also remember that if you are looking to buy something that you can contact me, and I will try to either price match or try to beat the price of the product you’re looking for. Patience is key in times like these, impulse purchases are purchases that you will often regret and more importantly, you can’t get out and practise as such or hit balls on a range so hold off and get custom fitted.

Golf on tv

Golf is back

Golf made returned to our TV screens on Sunday evening as Rory McIlroy and Dustin Johnson took on Rickie Fowler and Matthew Wolff at the TaylorMade Driving Relief in Florida, raising over $4 million for charities helping with relief efforts during the Covid-19 pandemic.

Understandably, the quality of golf wasn’t at its highest but it made for fascinating viewing. Players wearing microphones and carrying their bags, no spectators lining the fairways, and a golf course in pristine condition.

The players competed in a skins match, with extra money raised for birdies, eagles as well as a couple of long drive challenges – Wolff launched massive drives of 356 and 368 yards to take the honours here. With the final six skins rolling over with each hole halved, a 120-yard nearest-the-pin shootout was needed to decide the overall winners.

The result? Rory showing why he’s the world number one by knocking a wedge to within 12-feet to secure victory for him and DJ.

It was great to see some live golf back on TV and for such a tremendous cause. If you watched it, we’d love to know what you thought. Did you enjoy hearing what the players were saying to each other? Thoughts for the course

When you’ve been playing golf for many years, it’s easy to set-up to the ball in a way that feels natural without too much thought. However, without a proper pre-shot routine, our ball position can easily move to a place that's doing more harm than good.

Keep an eye on things

As in last week’s article on alignment, the easiest way to check your ball position is by placing a club or stick on the floor as in the image above.

If you’re unsure about where the ball should be positioned within your stance with any club in your bag, send us a message or a photo and we’ll get back to you.

Pre-shot routine is key

This drill is perfect for when you’re practicing on the range but out on the course it all stems from your pre-shot routine. Not only does this help with your fundamentals such as ball position and alignment, but it’ll also help you if you’re feeling particularly nervous. Enjoy every step

Managing to get back out on the course and play golf again is going to bring a lot of joy to people in the coming weeks and months. Walking four miles or more – on top of actually swinging a golf club – is quite a bit of exercise considering the recent situation, so make sure you’re set up for maximum comfort before you head out.

All of today’s golf shoes are made with comfort and performance at heart. If you’re wearing shoes that are a few years old, starting to wear or have a hard leather sole, we have plenty of affordable new shoes in the pro shop for when we're open.
