Hi everyone,

It has been a rather unpredictable week as far as the weather has been concerned. We have had some of the nicest days for them only to be followed by some of the worst. Saturday's forecast was torrential for the Gents Medal but on the day it was one of the nicest days I have had on the course. Just that bit of breeze to keep you focused. Sadly the weather completely changed on the Sunday.

The course essentially closed itself due to the downpours that came through overnight and through the day.

As you can see in the picture the 18th green was just unable to drain, which was the same around the golf course. Obviously, the picture was taken from inside.

This was a real shame as it meant that the annual Mixed Open had to be cancelled. After a lot of organising by Malcolm Bee it was a real shame to see the event cancelled, hopefully, it will be a better day next year.

Despite all of the bad weather on Sunday, the Touring Staff from the shop were still playing in a tournament up at Sandyhills in Glasgow. Even though all the rain Calum got off to a great start carding 7 birdies along with a double-bogey to finish 5 under.

Calum's score was leading for most of the day but sadly all he can take from the round is some confidence in his game as the event got cancelled due to the weather. Hopefully, he can take that form back to Sandyhills when the event is rescheduled. Luckily his golf is better than his newsletter efforts.

Weekly Round-Up

Saturdays Ferguson bowl Par Bogey competition was an extremely lucky one for all that took part. For the whole week the weather was to be horrendous but on the day it was just another breezy St Nicholas Medal.

Well done to Ricky Byrne who won via Better Inward Half against Drummond Ramage as both beat the course 7.

This weeks ladies medal was the Gladys Wallace Trophy - Par Competition. The eventual winner was Elizabeth Neill.

Variety is the spice of life

Whatever happened to having a ‘textbook’ swing? If you were to watch golf on TV you’d see all sorts of different swings that have propelled these golfers to the top of the world, and the same can be said on the greens too.

There's definitely no single approach when it comes to how you grip your putter. You have a more traditional no-fuss approach that is favoured by the likes of Tiger Woods; a left-below-right grip which is a recent craze made famous by Jordan Spieth's putting heroics; and then the opposite extreme in anchoring that has recently been banned by the R&A.
