Hi folks,

A bit of a quieter week here at the golf club with the stormy conditions keeping a lot of you away. Not surprising with the high winds and rain that’s been hitting the west coast over the last few days.

Despite there being less of you around our new bonus ball has had a great uptake with only a few spaces left.

The first draw will take place as soon as the sheet is full so if you don’t want to miss out on your chance of winning a brand new Under Armour Daytona Midlayer make sure you get into the shop and enter.

As I was mentioning the bad weather we suffered it a bit ourselves last Friday. Both myself and Gareth were invited by one of the members to go through and play Archerfield Filed Links on Friday and I’m not joking when I say it was a test. From driving through to Edinburgh in some of the worst rain conditions, to almost making it dry on the front nine we ended up getting absolutely soaked on the 7.

With a quick stop in the half way hut the rain had stopped, you would have thought it was a different day, but from then on in the wind picked up and it was a fight to finish but we luckily made it.

Despite the conditions it was a great days golf and I would recommend the courses to anyone if you ever get a chance to play. It just made us look forward to the fairways coming back on at St Nicholas.

Hopefully see a lot more of you getting out on the golf course this week.

The new Rules of Golf have now started!

Make sure you study them.

The 20 most important changes to the rules of golf 2019

1. Search Time - Reduced from 5 minutes to 3 minutes

2. Ball Moved During Search - Replace with no penalty

3. Embedded Ball - Free relief anywhere through the course

4. Measuring A Drop - Use longest club (except putter)

5. Dropping - Drop from knee height rather than shoulder

6. Taking Stance On Wrong Green Is Not Permitted

7. Ball Unintentionally Hits Player Or Equipment - No penalty

8. Double Hit - No penalty. Now only counts as the one stroke

9. Touching Sand In The Bunker Incidentally Is Permitted

10. Loose Impediments Can Be Removed Anywhere Including Hazards

11. Dropping Ball Outside Bunker - 2 Penalty strokes

12. Water Hazards - Now called "PENALTY AREAS"

13. Touching Ground In Penalty Area - No penalty

14. Ball Moves On Green After Being Marked - Replace without penalty

15. Ball Accidentally Moves On Putting Green - Replace without penalty

16. All Damage To Green Can Now Be Repaired

17. Positioning a club for alignment is not permitted

18. Caddie assisting with alignment is now not permitted

19. Putting with flag stick in is now permitted

20. Ball wedged against flag stick and side of hole is deemed as holed

Mickelson has his eye-in

Phil Mickelson endured a frustrating wait to record his fifth AT&T Pebble Beach title last weekend. Following a delayed start to Sunday's final round due to a hailstorm, Mickelson rolled back the years by executing shot after shot to find himself three ahead with just two holes remaining, before getting forced off the course due to bad light.

With just 'lefty' and 54-hole leader Paul Casey taking to the course on Monday, a Mickelson win was all but a formality with just the final two holes left to navigate. And so it proved.

Arguably, the most impressive feat of the week came during Mickelson's opening round, when he managed to hit every single fairway for the first time in over two decades. We all know that splitting the fairway from the tee is a sure-fire way to take shots off your game, but we also know it is no easy task. Practice makes perfect but if you find yourself going wayward more often than not, or just want to tidy up your game, then come and have a chat with us to enhance your chances of staying out of the rough.
