Hi folks,

The horrible winter weather is sadly still with us and going by long range forecasts its not going to be changing any time soon, not the best when you have to watch the tour pros playing in the sun on tv.

To try and brighten things up and to make you feel like you have some luck playing in Scotland we are going to start running a bonus ball in the shop with great prizes up for grabs for those lucky winners. The first bonus ball will be taking place on 01/02/19 and it will cost £2 per ticket or 3 for £5, this first prize will be a brand new Under Armour Daytona Midlayer which was advertised in last week’s newsletter.

Think it’s to cold and the weathers to poor to get a golf lesson at this time of the year?

The new indoor / outdoor practice facility is in full operation for golf lessons over the last week and with the addition of a couple of heaters everyone’s been taking the layers off whilst indoors and hitting golf balls.

Here’s Mark working on his ¾ pitch shots on Friday afternoon. A hugely important part of the game and one that should be practised whenever you get a chance. It will shave shots off your game if it’s consistent enough and the technique is sound.

If you are looking to treat a family member or friend we have vouchers available.

45 minute lesson - £30

45 minute lesson with FlightScope - £35

Block of 6 lessons £150 (Buy 5 get 1 free)

Gapping Session with FlightScope - £35

Two people in a lesson add 50%, three people in a lesson add 75% etc.

January Medal

Well done to David Gerrish who won the January Medal on a count back with a great score of 78 nett 69. Gordon Wilson also posted a great score of 79.

Alastair Stevenson won division two with a score of 97 nett 70. Good to see that the new clubs are working well Alastair. Well done.

The 20 most important changes to the rules of golf 2019

1. Search Time - Reduced from 5 minutes to 3 minutes

2. Ball Moved During Search - Replace with no penalty

3. Embedded Ball - Free relief anywhere through the course

4. Measuring A Drop - Use longest club (except putter)

5. Dropping - Drop from knee height rather than shoulder

6. Taking Stance On Wrong Green Is Not Permitted

7. Ball Unintentionally Hits Player Or Equipment - No penalty

8. Double Hit - No penalty. Now only counts as the one stroke

9. Touching Sand In The Bunker Incidentally Is Permitted

10. Loose Impediments Can Be Removed Anywhere Including Hazards

11. Dropping Ball Outside Bunker - 2 Penalty strokes

12. Water Hazards - Now called "PENALTY AREAS"

13. Touching Ground In Penalty Area - No penalty

14. Ball Moves On Green After Being Marked - Replace without penalty

15. Ball Accidentally Moves On Putting Green - Replace without penalty

16. All Damage To Green Can Now Be Repaired

17. Positioning a club for alignment is not permitted

18. Caddie assisting with alignment is now not permitted

19. Putting with flag stick in is now permitted

20. Ball wedged against flag stick and side of hole is deemed as holed

Are new clubs the key?

It was the perfect start to 2019 for world number one Justin Rose, as he won the Farmers Insurance Open by three shots at Torrey Pines to claim his tenth victory on the PGA Tour. Rose, who has switched club manufacturers this season, showed no signs of rustiness as he drove and putted superbly throughout the week, with every round finishing in the 60s. He had a brief wobble in the final round, with three bogeys in his opening five holes, but his nearest challenger in Adam Scott was unable to capitalise.

Whilst there would have been some eyebrows raised at Rose’s decision to switch up the clubs in his bag having just reached the pinnacle of golf, his victory shows that even the world’s best can keep on finding ways to improve their game through a change of gear in the bag.
