Welcome to another edition of our newsletter. This week, we take a look at two tense tournament endings on both the PGA and European Tours, whilst also revealing some incredible irons for 2019.

Hi folks,

Winter is still with us but that cold weather isn’t stopping you from going out on the course which is great to see. Sadly though it is inevitable that we are going to loose a few balls in the not too distant future or throughout the season so now is the best time to stock up.

Coaching corner

The time is now…

The golfing season is not far away so it’s time to whip your game into shape, I start coaching as of the 16th January again and the diary is starting to fill up so make sure you book your slot.

If you are serious about your game and want to make serious improvements I would recommend purchasing a block of lessons. When purchasing a block you are able to use two of your lessons towards a on course 9-hole lesson which gives us a very good insight into where your game currently is. It also helps diagnose what areas are needing more attention going forward into the rest of that block.

Just looking at these pictures of young Holly, you can see the vast improvement she has made to the plane of her swing, and that’s only after one lesson.

If you are looking to treat a family member or friend we have vouchers available.

Rules of the week

The new Rules of Golf have now started!

Make sure you study them.

The 20 most important changes to the rules of golf 2019

1. Search Time - Reduced from 5 minutes to 3 minutes

2. Ball Moved During Search - Replace with no penalty

3. Embedded Ball - Free relief anywhere through the course

4. Measuring A Drop - Use longest club (except putter)

5. Dropping - Drop from knee height rather than shoulder

6. Taking Stance On Wrong Green Is Not Permitted

7. Ball Unintentionally Hits Player Or Equipment - No penalty

8. Double Hit - No penalty. Now only counts as the one stroke

9. Touching Sand In The Bunker Incidentally Is Permitted

10. Loose Impediments Can Be Removed Anywhere Including Hazards

11. Dropping Ball Outside Bunker - 2 Penalty strokes

12. Water Hazards - Now called "PENALTY AREAS"

13. Touching Ground In Penalty Area - No penalty

14. Ball Moves On Green After Being Marked - Replace without penalty

15. Ball Accidentally Moves On Putting Green - Replace without penalty

16. All Damage To Green Can Now Be Repaired

17. Positioning a club for alignment is not permitted

18. Caddie assisting with alignment is now not permitted

19. Putting with flag stick in is now permitted

20. Ball wedged against flag stick and side of hole is deemed as holed

Tour news

That was a Shock

It was a shock win for world number 417 Adam Long, as the American claimed his maiden PGA Tour title at the Desert Classic in California. A bogey-free card for Long – in what was only his sixth tour event – led to a final round of 65, finishing on 26 under.

He fought off stiff competition from the considerably more experienced Phil Mickelson, who was left ruing a lack of composure on the greens, as he finished one shot behind Long. Mickelson had carded an opening round of 60 – his best ever round on tour – but he failed to cling on to his lead as Long claimed a well-deserved victory.

On the European Tour, it was an equally nerve-wracking end in the Abu Dhabi HSBC Championship, with Shane Lowry emerging victorious by one shot over South African Richard Sterne. It was the first victory on tour for Lowry since August 2015, and signals a return to form for the Irishman. A test of nerve was required with both Lowry and Sterne level on the 18th tee, but Lowry’s birdie at the last sealed the win.

Spotlight: Epic Flash driver

This time two years ago, we were sitting here in fascination as Callaway introduced Jailbreak Technology for the very first time, which produced significant distance gains for a lot of golfers.

Fast forward to now and Callaway is bringing Epic Flash to market (arriving here in a couple of weeks), which they say has a 'radically different face design' that will promote even faster ball speeds and, in turn, even more distance.
