Hi Folks, With the bad weather coming in and the temperature dropping make sure and pop into the shop and check out all the new logo’d and non-logo’d winter gear that we have had delivered. A wide range of windproof jumpers, woollen jumpers and waterproofs all available. We have now reached the time of year that everyone has been dreading. The end of the main golfing season and the beginning of the winter period. With this, we have the end of season prizegiving on Friday the 19th of October which is sure to be a great night. Make sure and get your names down on the sheet quickly. Myself, Gareth, Mark and Jordan will all be attending. Gareth is now home from South Africa and is back in the shop as of Thursday so if you have any questions for him please feel free to come in and I’m sure he’ll be happy to help. He also has the Scottish PGA championship next week which is the last OOM event of the year. Lets hope he has a good week and finishes the season on a high. Have a great week. Calum |
Practising effectively.... We are heading to the time of year where the weather plays a big part in not being able to get on to the golf course as frequently as we would all like. For this reason a lot of you will spend more time hitting golf balls on the practise range. This is a good way to keep the swing going over the winter months but what is hugely important is practising effectively when you do make it to the range. Keep things simple, invest in a simple set of practise sticks like the set Jordan is using here. If set up correctly they can be hugely beneficial in creating consistent set up positions whilst keeping alignment on track. The cost for a set of practise sticks is minimal at £14.99 a set available from the proshop but well worth the investment. It’s also time to think about possibly getting a few lessons over the winter period to keep you on track and with our new indoor facility you will stay dry and warm when coming along for a lesson during the colder months. If you need help with your game get a lesson booked in by either calling in to the shop on 01292 473904 or stopping in, this can be done in advance or if any early cancelations are available we can let you know. One of our staff will be happy to help. Click here and get in touch if you would like to book a lesson. |

Question You hit your second shot onto the middle of the green at the 6th hole giving yourself a good look a birdie. As you walk up to the green, a seagull flies down, lands on the green. It then picks you ball up, carries it away and drops it into the sea, out of bounds. What is the ruling? Find out the answer in next week’s newsletter Did you see last week’s rule? Question: What happens if a player has a caddy and then also gets advice from someone else during the round of golf in matchplay? Answer A player is only allowed to have 1 caddy during a round. If the player then gets advice from another source the following will happen: *PENALTY FOR BREACH OF RULE 6-4: Match play – At the conclusion of the hole at which the breach is discovered, the state of the match is adjusted by deducting one hole for each hole at which a breach occurred; maximum deduction per round – Two holes. Stroke play – Two strokes for each hole at which any breach occurred; maximum penalty per round – Four strokes (two strokes at each of the first two holes at which any breach occurred). |

Do you need new spikes? Winter brings with it rain, which makes the ground beneath your feet softer and more slippery. If your spikes are worn or even missing, keeping a stable base during your swing will be much harder and you'll be more prone to slipping. To avoid destructive shots like these, come in-store and take advantage of our Shoe MOT promotion, where you can get new spikes fitted for half price! |

Hatton crumbles It was back to the daily grind for Europe’s Ryder Cup heroes, with Tyrrell Hatton and Tommy Fleetwood both in action at the Alfred Dunhill Links Championship. Hatton led in the final round by four strokes heading into the back nine, but a remarkable collapse involving four bogies saw him card a level par 72, allowing Denmark’s Lucas Bjerregarrd to steal victory at St Andrews. Fleetwood shared second with Hatton as a final day 69 left him on 14 under, one stroke behind Bjerregarrd. This week the tour heads to Walton Heath with Justin Rose playing host at the British Masters. Rule changes As 2019 comes ever closer, so too do the new Rules of Golf which are to be implemented on 1st January 2019. The changes being made are intended to modernise the game, one of which is the dropping procedure. Drops will no longer have to be made from shoulder height – instead, golfers will be able to drop from knee height when taking relief to simplify the dropping process and speed up play.

Sometimes it's nice to reminisce about the good times. When it comes to golf, the days of persimmon woods, small clubheads and hitting balls which were hard as a rock are long gone - but it can help to take a trip down memory lane to remind us of just how much technology has developed, particularly in the case of drivers. |

Take Wilson Staff for example; you might have been lucky enough to own its revolutionary Pd6 driver way back in 2006. A relatively tiny 410cc clubhead meant the Pd6 was possibly one of the most intimidating clubs on the market - which made it even sweeter when you crushed one right down the middle. It's distinctive triangular shape makes the Pd6 one of the more memorable drivers in recent times, and is almost a bit of a collector's item. Fast-forward to the present day, and Wilson Staff has released its most technologically advanced driver to date in the form of C300. It features a forgiving 460cc headshape, as well as Power Holes to expand the sweetspot for more off-centre forgiveness. The customization possibilities are huge, with 13 loft set-ups along with many face angle and weight configurations available, meaning the C300 is primed to fit your game down to every last detail. So, whilst it is nice to think about your first ever driver, it's probably time to get up to speed with the latest models such as the C300. Who knows? Maybe in another 10 years time, you'll be looking back on the C300 with as much fondness as the Pd6! |
