Pro's news

Hi Folks,

Hope you’ve all had another lovely week in the sunshine. A few things coming up over the next few weeks with busy competition schedules here at the club including the Grant Meek charity day as well as The 2018 Pro’s Day so pop in and get your names down before it’s too late. There are also a couple of competitions being run through the shop at the moment in the lead up to The Open with our Win a Scotty Cameron putter Open Sweepstake and the Win a Titleist Tour Bag draw. Ask the lads in the shop when you are next in to give yourself a chance at winning a couple of great prizes.

Both myself and Calum were away this past weekend competing in the ASI Scottish Open qualifier at Longniddry Golf Club. I managed to card a good round of 1 under par 67 on day one but unfortunately followed it up with a disappointing 78 on a blustery day two. Calum shot rounds of 73, 74. It will have to be next year now I guess for the pair of us.

The teaching diary is still very busy at the moment with the first available slot being on Friday the 3rd August.

Make sure, if you are considering getting lessons that you come in and get them booked as soon as possible as Gareth’s diary will continue to fill throughout the season. You can also check with us to see if he has any cancelations so that we can get you in the diary as soon as possible.

This years teaching diary times will be as follows and can be subject to change on a weekly basis if Gareth is away playing in a Tartan tour event:

Wednesdays 13:00 – 19:00

Thursdays 13:00-19:00

Fridays 11:00 - 16:00

Sundays 10:30 -12:00

Rule of the week

Do you know?

Gareth is in the process of taking his backswing to hit his first teeshot. The clubhead snaps off, coming off the shaft. Since things are moving so quickly, he completes his swing, and since there's no clubhead, he fresh airs it and misses the ball.

What is the ruling?

Did you get the answer to last week’s rule?

If a player hits a wayward shot and proceeds to play a provisional ball, what is the procedure?

Answer: When playing a provisional ball a player must say to their playing partners that they are playing a “Provisional” ball (Rule27-2).

If they does not declare this then the second ball is not a provisional and is then in play under penalty of stroke and distance (Rule 27-1), even if they find their first ball. It is not good enough to just say I’ll play another.

Upcoming events

Pro's Day

Pros Day is approaching quickly. Committee have agreed that Associate members will be able to play on the day at any time, however if bringing a members guest along the guest would still need to pay the £12 sign on fee for the day as normal.

It’s going to be another fun but competitive day. We are now taking entries in the pro shop, it is a two man team event and the cost of entry for the day is £30 a team which is payable at the time of entry.

It will include refreshments on the day and don’t forget to bring your pennies to beat the pro. Tell your friends and get booked in as soon as you can as spaces are limited.

Tour news

A tight affair

The heatwave continues and what a weekend it was in general for British sport. England cruising into the World Cup semi-finals with a 2-0 victory over Sweden, it was also the British Grand Prix where Lewis Hamilton recovered from the back of the field to finish in 2nd place and Scotland’s Russell Knox won the Dubai Duty Free Irish Open.

It was a tight affair on the European Tour this week with a playoff hole deciding who took home the Irish Open and it was the Scotsman Russell Knox who defeated Ryan Fox of New Zealand. Knox holed two superb putts on the 18th green at Ballyliffin GC to claim his second European Tour victory. Can you tell the difference? Click here to view.

Attentions now turn to the Scottish Open this week where players will be putting in their final preparations for the third major of the year, The Open. Who will find some form heading into one of the toughest golfing destinations in the world, Carnoustie and will America make it three in a row...
