Hi folks,

I’m back after being away for a few days competing in a few Tartan tour events. Some fairly consistent results whilst away playing but would like to see some more consistency in general in my game. I think I’ll need to make a point of getting out to do some practising.

This year’s Junior Open is fast approaching and we are desperate to make it a successful event. With a few local junior opens being cancelled over the past few weeks, we are determined that ours goes ahead and that we get as many entries as possible.

We are also in need of hole sponsors for the day. The cost of a hole sponsorship is £50. This can be sponsored by an individual or amongst your weekly fourball.

Any support would be massively appreciated.

Have you figured out what shape of shot you hit yet?

It is hugely important that you understand what natural shape of shot you hit.

This will aid you in understanding your golf swing and how to get around the golf course in lower scores. If you have a variety of shots that creep in to your game and you see your golf ball flying with more than one shape of shot it’s time to get a lesson.

Ferguson Bowl results.

Well done to Douglas McQuiston who won the Ferguson Bowl Bogey competition with a 2 up win against the course.

This past Sunday also saw our annual Mixed Open annual event which again was very well supported. Well done to Malcolm Bee and his team for the great organisation and well run event. This year’s winners were Alastair and Jane Belford with a great score of 67.5.

Some other notable Prestwick St Nicholas results were as follows:

Division 1
Mara and Jim Lindsay finished 4th.

Division 2
David and Wendy Neilson finished 4th.

Rule of the week

Do you know the rules?

Alastair’s ball lies on the putting green. He marks the position of his ball with a small coin before rotating it several times to line up a mark on his ball which he added to help with alignment. What is the ruling?

A. Alastair is penalised one stroke.
B. Alastair is penalised two strokes.
C. There is no penalty.

On the putting green, Shona marks her ball, cleans it, and replaces it. However, as she is removing her ball-marker, she accidentally causes her ball to move a few inches closer to the hole. What is the ruling?

1. Shona incurs a one-stroke penalty and must replace her ball on its original position.
2. Shona incurs a one-stroke penalty and must play the ball from its new position.

As the removal of the ball-marker is part of the replacement process, the movement of the ball was directly attributable to the act of replacing it and therefore under Rule 20-3a, no penalty is incurred, and the ball must be replaced.
