Hi Folks,
Hope you have all had a good golfing week. Major news this week is the notification that my 2017 Pro's Day has the go ahead and that we are now taking bookings for the day. It's shaping up to be a fantastic day with loads of prizes and co-insides with the final round of this year's Open at Birkdale. You should have all received a special mail on Monday with all the details of the day.
Bookings will only be taken through the shop and you must pay your team entry of £20 at the time of booking. Spaces are already filling up very quickly so please be sure to pop in ASAP to avoid disappointment.
Have a great week.
Gareth
Do you have the 'flying elbow'?
Have a look at the two pictures and the angle of the right elbow at the top of the backswing. The 'flying elbow' as I like to call it, can lead to some inconsistency in setting your golf club in position and ensuring a good swing path back to the golf ball.
Next time you're out, swing to the top of your back swing and pause to check whether or not your right arm is in position. The tip of your right elbow should hopefully be pointing toward the ground or at worst at a parallel position to turf.
A great way to work on bettering the position is to think of making a ¾ swing. If you need any help in gaining more consistency, call the shop and book yourself in for a lesson.

This week's Invitational Foursomes results were as follows:
First - Margaret White & Jennifer Mutter - 37 points
Second - Sheila McDougall & Denise McNaughton - 36 points
Third - Moyra Withycombe & Doreen Tait - 35 points BIH
Well done ladies.
It looks like Titleist and Callaway are going to be releasing new irons shortly, keep an eye open for this as the near gear looks fantastic.
Shona finds a ball in the rough which she thinks may be hers, but she cannot see her identification mark. She advises Daniel that she intends to identify the ball and then lifts the ball to see her identification mark on it. She then carefully replaces the ball and plays her second shot. What is the ruling?
- There is no penalty
- Shona incurs a penalty of one stroke
- Shona incurs a penalty of two strokes
Find out what the answer is in next week's newsletter.
Did you get the answer to last week's rule?
In match play after Annette sunk her putt, she conceded her opponent Shiela's one-footer for par to halve the hole. Shiela then taps her putt in anyway. Is this allowed?
Answer:
Yes. In match play, this type of practice is OK (7-2)
