Pros news

Hi Folks,

I hope you all had a good week of golfing. Another busy week for us in the shop this week. Mark has returned from his trip to Rome for a week, I suppose the assistants need a break from time to time as well.

We have a couple of promotions this coming week including the Garmin Father's Day promotion as well at the Srixon golf ball performance packs. You will be receiving info on them all shortly so keep an eye on those mail boxes.

Have a great week folks.

Gareth

Coaching news

How good is your downswing??

Attacking the golf ball in a correct or good manner is vital in keeping your ball in play and striking the ball well. Roughly 80% of you will be making a poor downswing which in turn leads to a poor strike and poor ball flight control.

This week I had Gavin along for a session and as we can see in the top picture his angle of attack is far too upright and what we would class as 'over the top'. On the downswing his club is bisecting his neck which tells us that he is now in an 'over the top' position which will lead to the club cutting across the ball with what will more than likely be an open clubface. A fade/slice is highly likely to be the outcome.

In the picture on the right we straight away notice an improvement, the shaft of the club is flatter and bisecting his right shoulder on the downswing and we now have a good chance of squaring the clubface up and attacking the golf ball on more of an in to out swing path. From this particular position chances are likely that we would see a straighter or very gentle fade shot which will play around the golf course consistently.

This can be a tough move to work on and I would highly recommend doing the work with me helping you out as there are certain check points that will keep you on track. To book a lesson call the shop on 01292 473904 or pop in and see us.

Competition news

Congrats to Chris Ireland who won the June Medal with a great score of 66, nett 64. I believe he put a ball out of bounds on the final hole and still managed the good score. Sandy Buchanan also managed to post a 66 but with his handicap had to add a shot to his score to post a nett 67. Great shooting gents.

Rule of the week

A player may replace or remove a divot which is folded over but not completely detached which interferes with his/her backswing.

A - True
B - False

Find out what the answer is in next week's newsletter.

Did you get the answer to last week's rule?

Answer: A

Explanation: He may practice in accordance with Rule 7-2, provided a practice stroke is not made from a hazard and he does not unduly delay play. See Decision 7-2/1.
