Hi Folks,
I'm back to the newsletter this week again after Mark and Jordan did a shift and produced what I thought were two very good weeks of newsletter info. Well done to the two of them.
It looks like the rest of the week's forecast is set for another hint of a heat wave later on in the week. We will be looking forward to seeing you all playing some golf in the warmer weather and taking advantage of the golf course. The bit of rain has certainly made a difference to the quickly growing semi rough over the past week. If you manage to lose a few golf balls, well…you know where to stop in for golf ball deals!
I managed to play in my first Tartan Tour event last Friday with our head greenkeeper John MacLachlan in the Harry Fairbairn Largs Pro-Am event. We had a great day, but unfortunately my run of good solid golf over my past 3 rounds came to a disappointing close with a 76, 6 over par score. I struck the ball well but missed one or two greens. Those of you who have played Largs will know that if you miss the greens on the wrong side it's pretty much impossible to get up and down to save par. A very enjoyable round though nonetheless and I look forward to my next event where I will hopefully have played a bit more and got some practise in.
I hope you all have a great weeks golfing.
Gareth
This week I had Charlie for a chipping/short game lesson. With just a couple of small changes it made a big difference to his striking/collection and distance control of the golf ball. I have highlighted the two pictures with circles. Can you guess which the better of the two is?
This week's student of the week belongs to young
Rachel Foster whom I have been coaching for the past 8 or so years.
Rachel finished in the top 10 at the Munross Trophy at Montrose Golf Links during the weekend with two rounds of 1 under par and 2 over par.
Rachel is only 14 years old and has now got down to a 4 handicap. She has also been called up to represent Scotland at U/16 level in August.
Rachel is a junior member here at Prestwick St Nicholas and also plays her golf down at Turnberry.
Well done
Rachel, keep up the hard work!
Last week's Margaret Smith Trophy was won by
Tricia Moss with 38 stableford points. Runner up was
Sandra Carruthers with 37 points.
12 St Nicholas Ladies played in the Rankin Smith Ladies Open at St Cuthberts Golf Club on Friday. The Open was won by relatively new member
Ann Cumming of St Nicholas with a nett 61. I think we might need to look at that handicap
Ann!
Mara Lindsay was 2nd in the Silver Division with a 69 (Beaten by BIH),
Sheila Mcdougall was 3rd in the Bronze Division with a 67. Well done to all of the Prestwick St Nicholas ladies.
The maximum length of a tee is 4¼ inches (108mm).
A) True
B) False
Find out what the answer is in next week's newsletter.
Did you get the answer to last week's rule?
Q. Annette plays a good shot to the 8th green; Unfortunately It falls short of the green and spins down towards the OOB posts in front of the quarry.
Annette's ball is still in bounds but the white marker posts are interfering with her swing so Annette removes the white marker posts and plays her shot. Is this permissible?
Answer:
A. No. Objects defining OOB are fixed. Improving the position of a ball by moving anything fixed is in breach of Rule 13-2. Decision 13-2/17.
