Junior news

Last week saw the start of the 2017 junior section season. We had a fantastic turnout with 28 taking part on a blustery but dry Sunday. The older boys played 9-holes whilst the younger group played 5-holes and finished off with some chipping and bunker practise on the practice area before heading in for lunch. We also had a great turnout for Little Nicks this week with 16 showing up.

This week's 5 hole challenge winner was Connor Wills with a great score of 25 congratulations. Next week the older group will be playing their first medal for 2017.

If you are interested in helping out occasionally or sponsoring the junior section please get in touch.

Pros news

Good afternoon to you all from my couch at home again this week. It's been a sore week with trying to get into the way of crutches around the house and little sleep due to pain at night whilst trying to sleep.

Recovery is slow at the moment but I am in the process of organising physiotherapy to kick start things over the next week or so once I can remove the dressing on the knee. I have been told I will have to be on crutches with no weight bearing on the leg for a minimum of 4 weeks, which is a little longer than I thought it would be but I am hopeful that physio will help with that.

I am desperate to get back to work as soon as possible but in the same breathe want to make sure I recover properly this time round.

Our new 2017 stock is starting to land gradually over the next few weeks with some fantastic product arriving this season so stop in and have a look every time you're passing the shop. In my absence my top assistants in the form of Mark and Jordan will be taking care of you all. If however you need to speak to me directly please feel free to pop into the shop and one of the boys will call me from the shop phone. The boys are more than qualified to see to your every need, so please make use of them if you need any advice or help. I hope to see you all very soon and many thanks for all the get well messages.

Rule of the week

Q. Colin and Graham are playing together in a medal. During the round, Colin casually comments about his poor play. On the next tee Graham tells Colin that he is over-swinging and that he should try to shorten his backswing. Is this permissible?

Find out what the ruling is in next week's newsletter…

Did you get last week's rule correct??

Q. Bob and Ian are playing the 15th hole. Bob is renowned for his good putting and requests Ian to attend the flagstick. Bob hits an aggressive 20 yard putt toward the hole but as Ian removes the flagstick a knob attached to the top falls off. The knob strikes Bobs moving ball and deflects it into the hole. What's the ruling?

A. Once detached the Knob was no longer a part of the flagstick. It was an outside agency. Therefore, the stroke was cancelled and the ball must be replaced. Rule 19-1b, Decision 17/9
